Sub Committee on Standards and Conformance Meeting (SCSC) for the APEC 2017
The annual meeting of the Sub Committee on Standards and Conformance Meeting (APEC/SCSC 1) was held in Nha Trang on the date of 20th and 21st, February 2017. The Directorate for Standards, Metrology and Quality (STAMEQ) under the Ministry of Science and Technology served as Chairman of the APEC/SCSC 2017.
APEC/SCSC1 meeting, with the participation of nearly 100 international delegates coming from 21 APEC member economies, focused on discussion of the following contents: (1) promotion of activities concerning standardization and evaluation of conformance for trade facilitation within the APEC region, promotion of digital economy in the context of the 4th industrial revolution; (2) good regulatory practice (GRP) sharing among members, where emphasis should be on the development of national infrastructure for standards, metrology and quality where the priorities would be food safety, environmental protection and smart cities; (3) technical measures for supporting the participation of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in global supply chains; (4) enhancement of coordination among members within the framework of WTO/TBT-SPS, between the SCSC and international as well as regional organizations (5) sharing of information concerning the application of standards, certification, technological innovation,etc.
In particular, as the host, Vietnam has actively proposed the initiative on “Sharing good practices on the development and application of standards and conformity assessment for the development of smart urban in the APEC region”. This initiative focuses on the sharing of practical experiences, exchanging of information and discussion concerning the role and direction of standardization activities in the future among APEC member economies to serve the development of smart urban in the APEC region.
