46/ General Council advances preparations for MC11

At the reconvened General Council meeting on 18 May, WTO members agreed a number of steps in preparation for the 11th Ministerial Conference (MC11), to be held in Buenos Aires this December. The General Council formally elected Argentina’s Foreign Minister Susana Malcorra as Chair of MC11, agreed arrangements for the attendance of observers and heard an appeal for donations to a special trust fund to support the participation of least-developed countries in the Ministerial Conference. During the meeting the official logo for the Conference was also unveiled to members. The logo was developed as a joint endeavour between Argentina and the WTO Secretariat.

This meeting of the General Council was reconvened after it had been adjourned on Wednesday 10 May, due to a concern about the agenda for the meeting which was raised by a member. This was resolved through consultations held by the General Council Chair, Ambassador Xavier Carim of South Africa, together with the Director-General, which enabled the meeting to proceed as planned.
