EU gives EUR 100,000 to help LDCs participate in Ministerial Conference

The European Union is contributing EUR 100,000 (over CHF 114,000) to support the participation of least-developed countries (LDCs) in the eleventh WTO Ministerial Conference (MC11), which will take place on 10-13 December 2017 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Director-General Roberto Azevêdo said: “The EU’s donation will help LDCs to participate and make their voices heard at the WTO’s highest decision-making level and contribute towards ensuring that the benefits of trade are shared more universally. I welcome the EU’s generous support.”

EU Ambassador to the WTO, Marc Vanheukelen, said: “The EU remains strongly committed to promoting the active participation of LDCs in the multilateral trading system, including at WTO Ministerial Conferences. Strong LDC representation in Buenos Aires will be an important element in making the 11th WTO Ministerial Conference a success.”

The EU has donated approximately EUR 20 million (just over CHF 22 million) to WTO trust funds over the last 15 years, in addition to significant contributions made by individual EU member states.
