United Kingdom donates GBP 100,000 to support LDCs’ participation in Ministerial Conference

The United Kingdom Government is contributing GBP 100,000 (approximately CHF 132,000) to help least-developed countries (LDCs) participate in the eleventh WTO Ministerial Conference (MC11), which will take place on 10-13 December 2017 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

At a ceremony held at the WTO, Deputy Director-General Yonov Frederick Agah said: “I welcome the United Kingdom’s generosity. This donation is essential to ensure that the LDCs’ voice is featured prominently in global trade negotiations, thereby helping more people to leverage the opportunities that international trade offers.”

UK Ambassador Julian Braithwaite said: “The United Kingdom is strongly committed to strengthening the voice of LDCs in global trade negotiations, including at the WTO Ministerial Conferences. We believe that trade is an important tool to reduce poverty, boost sustainable development, attract investment and create an enabling environment for economic growth.”

Overall, the United Kingdom has donated approximately CHF 12 million to WTO trust funds over the last 15 years.
