“Canadian Delicacies” promotes culinary specialties to Vietnamese consumers
Canadian premium products featured at the reception included a diverse selection of Canadian fresh fish and seafood from the Atlantic and Pacific coast (lobster, oyster, black cod, snow crab, geoduck, sea urchin, salmon, and halibut), AAA grade beef from the Western province of Alberta, fresh and dried fruits from British Columbia, maple syrup, wine and beer.
Canadian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, Kyle Nunas said: “We are proud to showcase some of Canada’s world renowned culinary specialties. Our vast and diverse land, pristine and cold water enables us to develop a world-class food industry dedicated to high-quality and tasty products while respecting the environment”.
A number of Canadian and Vietnamese partners contributed to the success of the “Canadian Delicacies” event, including the Governments of Alberta, British Columbia and Nova Scotia of Canada, Cfoods Company, Calisa Foods, Indoguna Vina Food Service, Oakland Seafood, TDfood, Sarimi Fruits, The Monocle Group, Queen Food, Orana Vietnam, Stherb Vietnam, Minh Dang and LIBIS Ltd.
Many high-end hotels and restaurants are joining hands to highlight Canadian products in their menu in late March and April. From March 26 to April 8, Sheraton Hanoi Hotel has offered a special Canadian a-la-carte seafood menu. In April, Le Meridien Saigon Hotel will offer a diverse selection of Canadian seafood at the Sunday Brunch. From late March to the end of April, SumoBBQ restaurants of Golden Gate and the “Hotpot Construction” restaurants will carry special offers of Canadian beef to their customers in Hanoi.
Vietnam is Canada’s top trading partner among the ASEAN countries. Agri-food and seafood is an important component of the bilateral trade. In 2017, Canada’s export of agri-food and seafood to Vietnam reached C$612.4 million, up by 233% and accounting for 58% of the total Canadian exports to Vietnam. Canada’s key agri-food and seafood exports to Vietnam include wheat, fish and shellfish, oil seeds, beef, pork, fruits and feed.
The year 2018 is a significant milestone in Canada – Vietnam bilateral relations as it marks the 45th anniversary of the diplomatic relations and the conclusion of Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) agreement. “I am pleased to note the growing appreciation of Canadian food and beverage products among the Vietnamese consumers, and we look forward to further opportunities under the CPTPP”, the Consul General commented.
