DG Azevêdo welcomes Peru’s Vice President Mercedes Aráoz to the WTO
Director-General Roberto Azevêdo welcomed Vice President Mercedes Aráoz of Peru to the WTO on 11 June to discuss challenges facing the multilateral trading system and ongoing talks on reform of the WTO as well as Peru’s upcoming Trade Policy Review at the WTO.
“Peru has always been a dynamic member of the organization and a strong supporter of the multilateral trading system,” DG Azevêdo noted. “Peru is also taking a lead role in efforts to secure an agreement at the WTO on strengthening disciplines related to fisheries subsidies. We look forward to Peru’s continued positive engagement in this and other areas of our work.”
Peru is a founding member of the WTO and joined the WTO’s predecessor, the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), in October 1951.
