Regional Trade Policy Course takes place at the University of Mauritius

Thirty participants are taking part in a Regional Trade Policy Course at the University of Mauritius, a member of the WTO’s Chairs Programme. The course began on 29 April 2019 and will end on 21 June 2019.

The participants are from Botswana, Egypt, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Malawi, Nigeria, Seychelles, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Mauritius.

Topics to be covered during the course include agriculture, tariffs and customs valuation, accessions, dispute settlement, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, technical barriers to trade, trade in services, intellectual property, environment and development issues.

The training will involve quizzes carried out to evaluate the knowledge of the participants before and after the modules. Training materials are mostly made available through a virtual classroom set up and administered by the University of Mauritius. The training will also include a visit to an enterprise.

The opening ceremony was held on the 28 April 2019 in the presence of the Vice Chancellor of the University, the Director of Trade and representatives of the WTO. The training course will be closed by Yonov Frederick Agah, Deputy Director-General of the WTO.
