Cracking down on cyber challenges in the latest ISOfocus

Cybercrime is one of the greatest threats to companies around the world. Businesses across the globe have been putting their heads together to forge new solutions to a problem which only continues to grow exponentially. These new solutions are reflected in the latest issue of ISOfocus.

According to a recent McKinsey survey, 75 % of experts consider cybersecurity to be a top priority. That’s certainly true for many industries, even though they’ve perhaps been preoccupied with other risks that have emerged – like keeping up with today’s evolving technological landscapes and new regulations balancing the demands of this technology. Yet only 16 % said their companies are well prepared to withstand cyber-risks. Merely investing more money is unlikely to help.

In his opening comment, ISO President John Walter highlights how International Standards are the quintessential solutions as data quickly moves to become an inextricable element of any company’s “business as usual”.

“Gone are the days when companies could pass the headaches of cybersecurity to the IT department,” he says. “Those headaches have now become an issue of business sustainability and survival. International Standards are essential to ensure that cybersecurity programmes are rigorous and effective.”

The January/February 2019 edition of ISOfocus features risk management, Internet of Things security, cyber hacks and breaches, and expert opinion from industry thought leaders. It also features tried-and-tested company solutions such as information security management systems and IT service management.
