3 July 2019

Director-General Roberto Azevêdo welcomed Prime Minister Hun Sen to the WTO on 3 July on the occasion of the 7th Global Review of Aid for Trade. The two met and discussed current tensions in global trade, and the importance of the multilateral trading system for Cambodia and other least-developed countries.

“The Prime Minister and I discussed the role of trade in helping to drive Cambodia’s growth and development plans,” DG Azevêdo said. “It was encouraging to hear about the importance of the multilateral trading system, and of the Aid for Trade initiative, for Cambodia’s growth and development objectives. We will continue to work together to that end.”

The Prime Minister gave a keynote speech at the opening session of the biennial Aid for Trade Global Review, which is taking place at the WTO from 3 to 5 July. The visit was the second by the Cambodian Prime Minister to the WTO in the past year.

Cambodia became a member of the WTO on 13 October 2004.
