25 NOVEMBER 2021

Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala hosted on 25 November an information session on the work done by the WTO Secretariat to support equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines. A total of 146 representatives from 62 members and observers participated in the briefing session.

DG Okonjo-Iweala briefed participants on the Secretariat’s technical work on trade issues related to the pandemic, available on the COVID-19 and world trade webpage, as well as contributions to the Multilateral Leaders Task Force on COVID-19.

In her remarks to members and observers, DG Okonjo-Iweala stressed the value of the IMF-WTO COVID-19 Vaccine Trade Tracker: “The tracker is a new generation tool — it brings together data from different sources in the public domain to provide greater transparency on cross-border flows of COVID-19 vaccines, ranging from the countries exporting finished vaccines to the types of supply arrangements under which they are traded,” she said.

The programme included a technical presentation by the Secretariat on the recently launched COVID-19 Trade Tracker.
