66/ Join the conversation thí international Women’s day

By Catherine Infante on 1 March 2022

This year, we join UN Women in celebrating International Women’s Day on 8 March, under the global campaign “Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”. Women are amongst the most vulnerable to climate change, experiencing its deepest impacts, and thus must play an active role in global climate action responses. That’s why, this year for #IWD2022, we recognize the numerous ways in which women contribute to sustainable solutions, including the role they play in standardization.

Standards touch almost every aspect of our lives and there are thousands that contribute concretely to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, including those directly related to gender equality and climate. Since ISO was founded 75 years ago, the goal of our organization has always been that every voice is heard. This means continuously strengthening the participation of women in the development of ISO standards and making these standards more relevant to women around the world.

ISO standards address global issues, but they’re only as strong as the participation is wide. The more women we have at the table, the more inclusive and sustainable our solutions will be. This year, we celebrate women at every table across any organization, town hall meeting, NGO or convention, who are tackling climate-related issues, and especially those within the ISO family. Check out this campaign space for more details and join the conversation leading up to 8 March with hashtags #ISOgenderaction and #IWD2022.
