At an event organized by Asia House, an independent think tank, on 1 March, Deputy Director-General Angela Ellard provided an overview of possible topics for discussion at the WTO’s upcoming 12th Ministerial Conference (MC12). She also discussed WTO reform and the challenges facing global trade

DDG Ellard briefed participants on the WTO’s efforts to support the global recovery from COVID-19 and to address vaccine inequity. In addition, she highlighted ongoing efforts to reform the organization, including the dispute settlement system, and outlined possible elements of a reform agenda.

DDG Ellard took a number of questions from Asia House corporate members who joined the briefing from around the world. She was asked about the effect of the conflict in Ukraine on global trade, the level of private sector engagement with the WTO and the organisation’s role in setting a global carbon price.
