30/ Tunisia launches safeguard investigation on iron or non-alloy steel wires for the manufacture of furniture springs

On 21 July 2022, Tunisia notified the WTO’s Committee on Safeguards that it initiated on 19 July 2022 a safeguard investigation on iron or non-alloy steel wires for the manufacture of furniture springs.
In the notification Tunisia indicated, among other things, as follows (provisional English translation):

All interested parties are invited to make their views known in writing and to submit all information deemed useful for the proper conduct of the investigation within 45 days from the date of publication of the notice of initiation of investigation in the Official Journal of the Republic of Tunisia.”

What is a safeguard investigation?
A safeguard investigation seeks to determine whether increased imports of a product are causing, or is threatening to cause, serious injury to a domestic industry.
During a safeguard investigation, importers, exporters and other interested parties may present evidence and views and respond to the presentations of other parties.
A WTO member may take a safeguard action (i.e. restrict imports of a product temporarily) only if the increased imports of the product are found to be causing, or threatening to cause, serious injury.
