74/ WTO to provide coaching help to developing country team coaches in Moot Court Competition

Coaching assistance will be made available by the WTO to coaches of teams from developing and least developed countries participating in the annual John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition on WTO Law. The coaching sessions will run from 14 to 29 September and require prior registration.

The 21st Edition of the John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition on WTO Law will be launched on 30 September 2022. The Competition is a simulated hearing under the rules of the WTO dispute settlement system involving exchanges of written submissions and adversarial hearings before panellists on international trade law issues. The competition is organized by the European Law Students’ Association (ELSA) with the technical support of the WTO.

The WTO and the Advisory Centre on WTO Law (ACWL) will, in accordance with their mandates to provide technical assistance, offer one-on-one tailor-made sessions with coaches of participating teams in developing and least developed countries.  The sessions will take place between 14 September and 29 September.

Prior to this, the WTO, the ACWL and ELSA offered a webinar on the Moot Court Competition for prospective coaches of teams interested to in participating in the competition. The one-on-one sessions will provide a practical overview of the subjects discussed in the webinar and address any specific questions that the coaches may have before the start of the competition.

Every year, the John H. Jackson Moot Court Competition provides hundreds of students across the globe an opportunity to address interesting and sometimes novel questions of WTO law, and to engage with WTO experts who serve as panellists and sponsors of the competition. Over the years, the Moot Court Competition has served as a launchpad for many students into the field of international trade law.
