Director-General Roberto Azevêdo met today (18 July) with Nirmala Sitharaman, India’s Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, to discuss developments at the WTO and preparations for the 11th Ministerial Conference to be held in Buenos Aires, 10-13 December
The Director-General and the Minister exchanged views on a range of issues which are of interest to India at the WTO. They agreed that every effort must be made to achieve a positive and balanced outcome at MC11 and that strong political commitment and engagement would be necessary to achieve this. The Director-General expressed his appreciation of India’s continuing strong support for the multilateral trading system.
Beyond the Ministerial Conference preparations, the discussions focused on the state of the global economy and the importance of trade as a contributor to economic growth, employment and development.
